Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital, affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and founded in 1904, is a designated National Center for Orthopedics and one of the world's foremost centres for microsurgery and reconstruction. In 1963 its surgeons performed the world's first successful replantation of a severed limb, earning it the title "cradle of limb replantation in China." Its orthopedics covers joint and trauma surgery, hand and reconstructive microsurgery, spine, sports medicine, bone oncology and foot-and-ankle, backed by national research institutes.
